What is Financial Aid? There are two main types of financial aid. Need-based aid and merit based aid. You can apply to and receive both types of aid. The first step in figuring out how much need-based government aid you qualify for is to fill out the FREE FAFSA. Through the FAFSA you can qualify for Grants ( money you never have to pay back ), Federal Work Study ( jobs on or near campus that have been set aside to help qualifying students earn money for living expenses), and Federal Student Loans (money that you must eventually pay back). Other forms of aid may be provided by your college or through private loans and scholarships.
